Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work in five to ten schools or lab-sites grouped by grade-level, each year working with ten to twenty-five teachers in each school.
  • Plan and execute the work in each school, supervising teachers as they begin to implement the work, and for recommending directions for each of their schools.
  • Demonstrate models of effective teaching and supervise teachers as they begin to approximate those models within their own classrooms.

Leadership role:

  • Oversee primary staff development under the guidance of the Deputy Director for Primary Literacy. Assists in supervising 40+ primary staff developers in their daily work and long term planning.
  • Work closely with Founding Director and senior leaders on high level strategy relating to curriculum development, staff supervision, and curricular materials creation.
  • Take a lead role in developing and editing curricular materials for primary literacy.
  • Mentor 10-12 staff developers.
  • Serve as a face of the organization, offering keynotes and leading events for groups of 10-1000 people throughout the year.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must have deep knowledge of Teachers College Reading and Writing Project methods and NY State standards and NYC assessments.
  • Must have 3 years experience as an exemplary teacher exhibiting best practices in the teaching of reading and writing for grades K-8.
  • Must have 5+ years as a staff developer or coach.
  • Must have a proven track record in staff development.
  • Must have a knowledge base to match the demands of the job.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A Master of Arts degree is preferred.
