Job Summary/Basic Function:

Teacher College (TC) seeks an Associate Director of Enterprise Data Management to lead college-wide efforts to leverage data to demonstrate TC's impact, improve our program effectiveness, and add value for senior leadership, faculty and college administration. You will help unlock the value of TC’s rich and diverse data assets and modernize our approach to data governance, data collection, analysis, and visualization. This is a unique opportunity to establish a foundational program that will influence data-driven decision-making at Teachers College for years to come. You will play a pivotal role in ensuring TC’s data is accurate, consistent, and well-governed, while building sustainable processes that drive institutional decision-making and operational efficiency. This position requires both technical expertise and leadership skills, as you will actively work with data systems, write SQL queries, design data structures, and implement tools while collaborating with stakeholders at all levels across the college.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Data Governance Partnership and Enablement 

  • Partner with the Office of Institutional Research to operationalize data governance frameworks, policies, and standards across systems and departments.
  • Facilitate the adoption of governance processes and tools to ensure institutional data is accurate, secure, and reliable.

Data Quality and Integration 

  • Identify and address issues of data duplication, inconsistency, and inaccuracy by promoting effective data stewardship and implementing data quality monitoring processes.
  • Collaborate with IT teams to integrate enterprise data systems and build automated workflows for data movement (ETL pipelines).

Collaboration and Service Delivery 

  • Collaborate closely with the Office of Institutional Research to align enterprise data strategies with institutional reporting and analytic needs.
  • Develop data capabilities that support operational, compliance, and self-service analytical reporting for stakeholders across the college.
  • Serve as a key advisor and resource to senior leadership, faculty, and staff on data-related opportunities, challenges, and solutions.

Technology and Innovation

  • Evaluate, implement, and manage tools and technologies that support enterprise data management, governance, and integration.
  • Drive the adoption of modern data practices, tools, and frameworks to support real-time and predictive analytics.
  • Continuously research emerging trends and recommend best practices in data management to keep TC's systems modern and effective.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Data Management, Computer Science, Information Systems or related field. Master’s degree preferred.
  • 5+ years of progressive work experience with demonstrated expertise, preferably in the higher education sector and environments with complex enterprise architecture.
  • Experience planning and deploying both business and IT initiatives.
  • Solid understanding of database design, schemas, and relational database structures.
  • Strong SQL skills, with experience writing and optimizing queries to analyze and transform data.
  • Experience with ETL processes, data pipelines, and enterprise data integration tools.
  • Familiarity with Master Data Management (MDM) technologies and concepts.
  • Strong project management skills, with experience leading cross-functional initiatives.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to engage technical and non-technical stakeholders and build consensus

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with higher education data systems (e.g., Ellucian Banner, Slate, Argos, Salesforce, Tableau).
  • Experience working with APIs, data warehouses, lakes, or lakehouses, and cloud-based data infrastructure (AWS) and integration platforms (Workato, Mulesoft).
  • Familiarity with enterprise-level MDM or data catalog tools.
  • Knowledge of institutional research and reporting in higher education.
  • Experience with HIPAA and FERPA compliance.

Salary Range:

$132,000 - $150,000

The salary range reflects the College’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the compensation for the position at the time of the job posting.  Salary decisions are dependent on several factors including but not limited to market and organizational considerations, experience, and qualifications of a selected candidate as well as internal and external equity.

Hybrid/Remote
Teachers College maintains a hybrid work environment, which provides employees with flexible work arrangements, while ensuring we preserve the important aspects of our unique in-person college-campus culture. Depending on role and business needs, colleagues will either work onsite or in a hybrid model (combination of in-office and virtual days). Employees are expected to live within a 150-mile radius of the College.
