Job Summary/Basic Function:
The Gottesman Libraries is seeking Associates to help the Teachers College community become familiar with library resources and services. We are particularly interested in applicants who are strongly committed to meeting the research and information needs of students, faculty, and staff, and who wish to gain library expertise through ongoing work and special projects with staff. Candidates should demonstrate an interest in teaching and learning with technology, and be comfortable in adapting to evolving library and educational needs.

Associates work in all aspects of library operations, including reference, circulation, cataloging, interlibrary loan, technology maintenance and support, digitization, instruction, and outreach. Projects may include shelf reading, weeding, and shifting; design, displays, and exhibits; inventory, scanning, and archiving; copy cataloging; and writing and online publishing. Associates may participate in activities related to their areas of study, such as children’s literature and K-12 curriculum.

The library offers a collegial professional environment, with opportunities for library learning in tune with the campus community. During Fall and Spring, the Library is open Monday-Thursday, 9am-10pm; Friday, 9am-5pm; Saturday, 12pm-6pm; Sunday, 12pm-8pm; in Summer, Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm, Sunday, 12pm-8pm. Library Associates staff the First Floor Services Desk during all open hours and are also scheduled to work “off desk”.

Scheduling
Student work schedules are based on the needs of the department and the student’s academic schedule. Students should discuss their schedules with the hiring manager/supervisor during the interview process. Hiring managers/supervisors will make every attempt to accommodate students’ needs.

Work Limitations
During the academic year, students may not hold appointments or any combination of appointments totaling more than 27 hours per week (International students may work up to 20 hours). Interim Student (IS) may hold other non-exempt positions (i.e. FWS, CA, AF) and must not exceed the maximum total allowable 27 hours per week. IS cannot hold a TA or RA position simultaneously with their IS position.

Minimum Qualifications:
The Associate position is open to individuals with the following skills:
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
- Experience in customer service and administrative support
- Familiarity with research methods
- Attention to detail
- A commitment to patrons and the field of education
- Able to commit to at least 15 hours per week
- Must be a TC student currently enrolled in a degree program and taking at least 1 credit during the fall/spring semesters
- Must be able to abide by Teachers College academic and personnel policies and guidelines, including FERPA, Student Confidentiality Agreement, and the Student Privacy Requirements

Preferred Qualifications:
- Feels comfortable offering assistance to adult learners and researchers
- Experience working in a library, design, or IT
- Enrolled at Teachers College
- Able to promote resources and services through social media platforms
