Job Summary/Basic Function:

Teachers College, Columbia University is seeking a Desk Attendant/Porter. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining the safety, cleanliness, and overall upkeep of a building. Essential functions and responsibilities of the position may vary based on operational requirements and business needs.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Desk attendant:

  • Monitor and oversee surveillance cameras to maintain building security
  • Notify tenants promptly to visitors’ arrival and package deliveries
  • Sort, log and distribute incoming mail and packages
  • Manage sign-in and sign out procedures for vendor, contractors and guests
  • Provide courteous assistance and greeting to residents and visitors
  • Enforce building policies and procedures to ensure safety and compliance
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the front desk and main entrance

Porter:

  • Clean, dust and sanitized surfaces; vacuum, sweep and mop floors in shared and common areas
  • Remove from bins and compactor, recyclables, garbage and compose for sanitation pickup
  • Transport safely large items from Seth Low to the main campus for disposal
  • Assist with exterior cleaning: watering of plants and snow removal
  • Report maintenance concerns to the supervisor or manager
  • Fulfill work orders as they become available
  • Serve as a mover as needed
  • Strip and wax floor as needed.
  • Deep clean apartments and windows for incoming tenants
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 1-2 years’ experience working as a desk attendant or customer service representative
  • 1-2 years’ experience working as a porter, custodian, or janitor
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    • Must be able to read, write, and speak English fluently
    • Basic computer skills needed
    • Must be able to work independently
  • PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
    • Be able to walk and stand for an extended period of time
    • Be able to lift 50 lbs or more
    • Have the ability to climb stairs and ladders

Preferred Qualifications:

  • College Degree
  • 3-5 years of custodial experience
  • 3-5 years of desk attendant experience

Salary Range:

$22.99/hr

Work Modality:

Onsite
