The Painting and Drawing Studio at Teachers College is designed to support a broad range of studio approaches in the art of drawing and painting. The Painting and Drawing Studio Fellow is responsible for maintaining a safe, clean, and orderly instructional and creative space in support of studio faculty and students and in accordance with the principles, culture, and goals of the Art and Art Education Program.

Job Summary/Basic Function:

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Studio Operation:

• Understand how to safely operate each piece of equipment and each tool in the studio, and train students, staff, and faculty on equipment and tools as needed.
• Maintain a safe and clean studio and an organized system of supplies, reorganizing or renovating parts of the studio under the direction of studio faculty and the Program Office as needed.
• Order and inventory materials and supplies as needed and work with Program Office staff to replace or repair equipment as needed.
• Ensure studio users follow appropriate guidelines and safety measures.

Faculty Support and Studio Programming:

• Set up and prepare studio classroom for faculty as requested and perform physical tasks as needed.
• Under the direction of the studio faculty and the Program Manager, schedule and monitor open studio hours for enrolled students.
• Support students and faculty on assignments and artistic/educational/academic goals.
• Stay abreast of current trends in the designated studio practices and technologies.
• Conduct and maintain a social media and web presence if applicable and in conjunction with expectations set up by Art and Art Education Program.
• Collaborate with faculty to further synchronize the designated studio with curricular objectives.
• Host and conduct workshops or other events as needed.

Other duties as assigned:

Minimum Qualifications:

• Graduate student in the Art and Art Education Program.
• Basic (1-2 years) experience working in commercial, community or higher-ed studio art environment.
• Desire and ability to learn about modern and traditional tools, materials, and techniques relating to the art and fields of 2-D media including Drawing and Painting.
• Interest in supporting the artistic development of studio users (students, faculty, visiting artists, etc.).
• Ability to lift up to 25 lbs on a daily basis.
• Excellent judgment and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

• A current TC Art and Art Education doctoral student with a MFA and/or the equivalent in studio-based experience.

Salary Range:

$18.00 - $20.00 / hr
