Job Summary/Basic Function:
The Digital Futures Institute at Teachers College, Columbia University seeks to hire an Instructional Support Associate for the Summer 2024 semester to work in the Smith Learning Theater.

This position offers hands-on training in multimodal event planning, providing valuable experience in coordinating events across various platforms and formats, including virtual, in-person, and hybrid formats at Teachers College, Columbia University. This is an interim appointment, offering 19 hours/week of employment, and is hired on a semester basis.

Responsibilities and Duties:
In this role, you will play a vital role in supporting the Smith Learning Theater team throughout all stages of event execution, including setup, operations, and breakdown:

  • Assist in planning and executing live events, ensuring smooth production
  • Contribute to the development and upkeep of event space dedicated to college events
  • Operate cameras during both live events and live-stream productions, ensuring optimal coverage
  • Collaborate in setting up and the breakdown of furniture and technological equipment for events
  • Provide technical support, including multi-camera video switching, and managing audio and lighting setups

Skills and competencies:
We're seeking a candidate with strong enthusiasm for learning the intricacies of event setup and execution. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, both professionally and personally, enabling effective interaction with faculty, students, and staff. Demonstrating a high level of empathy and proactive problem-solving abilities is crucial. Additionally, the ability to work autonomously, communicate effectively with guests and staff, and maintain a resilient "can-do" mindset in the face of challenges are essential qualities for success in this role.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Passion for learning and executing event setup and coordination
  • Ability to communicate professionally and empathetically with faculty, students, and staff
  • Attention to detail
  • Proficiency in using Google Workspace, MS Office Suite, and Canva to support event planning and execution tasks
  • Experience working at a higher education institution, educational organization, or corporate training environment
  • Familiarity with event technology, including camera operation, audio equipment, and lighting setups
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Must be able to accommodate a flexible work schedule, including after-hours and weekends
  • Able to commit to being on campus for 19 hours per week to support event activities and related work

Salary Range: $25.00/hour

Work Modality: Onsite
