Job Summary/Basic Function:
The Instructional Support Associate (ISA) assists faculty members in the implementation of instruction at Teachers College, Columbia University. The ISA works in the Digital Futures Institute (DFI) at Teachers College. 

This position offers the opportunity to contribute to the implementation of face-to-face, online, and hybrid instructional formats at Teachers College, Columbia University. This is an interim appointment, offering 19 hours/week of employment, and hired on a semester basis.

Responsibilities and Duties:
In this role, you will be supporting faculty in the development and set-up of their courses:

  • Assisting with course site layout and editing of Canvas LMS sites
  • Documenting concerns and problems with technology as they arise
  • Testing classroom technology and ensuring faculty are informed about best practices in its usage
  • Copy editing communications and course site content
  • Providing administrative support as needed
  • Testing course technology and activities
  • Other related duties, as assigned

Skills and competencies:
The ideal candidate will have a passion for higher education and adult professional development along with an outstanding aptitude for teaching and learning new technologies. The candidate will also be able to communicate professionally and personably with any faculty, student or staff and demonstrate a high level of empathy and proactive problem-solving abilities. It is also essential that the candidate be able to work with minimal supervision, juggle multiple projects, and maintain a “can-do'' mindset even when facing daunting challenges.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of an LMS (Canvas preferred but not required)
  • Some knowledge of instructional design models, learning theories, and/or multimedia design principles
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google apps
  • Experience working at a higher education institution, educational organization, or corporate training environment
  • Ability to work collaboratively
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Must be able to accommodate a flexible work schedule, including after-hours and weekends
  • Ability to work in person and virtually
  • Able to work at the TC campus at least 10 hours a week for office hours

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Knowledge of HTML and CSS
  • An applicant who is not currently a matriculating TC student

Salary Range: $25.00/hour

Work Modality: Hybrid

Hybrid/Remote
Teachers College maintains a hybrid work environment, which provides employees with flexible work arrangements, while ensuring we preserve the important aspects of our unique in-person college-campus culture. Depending on role and business needs, colleagues will either work onsite or in a hybrid model (combination of in-office and virtual days). Employees are expected to live within a 150-mile radius of the College.
