Teachers College, Columbia University is seeking an accomplished teacher-scholar and professional leader in English education for a 2 year visiting appointment in the Department of Arts & Humanities for the Program in English Education/The Teaching of English. Professorial rank is open and will be determined by the qualifications of the prospective appointee.

We are interested in appointing a visiting professor whose research and professional activity contributes to the enduring and dynamic field of English education, encompassing the teaching and learning of English language, literature, and composition and related arts of language, while investigating and honoring the vitality of diverse and multiple forms of literacy and “literature,” as well as providing expertise in one or more of the following areas:

● innovative pedagogical methods and cultural influences within English Education, Urban Education, and Teacher Education & Licensure
● the complexities of language, literature, and composition as they position teachers for globalization & technology
● how secondary schools and two and four-year post-secondary institutions illuminate, enhance, and redefine language and literacy learning in urban education
● interdisciplinary research and perspectives in multimodality (such as sound studies, etc.) as they apply to educational contexts

Minimum Qualifications:
Our search will be focused on recruiting a recognized intellectual and professional leader in the field of English education with an established record of influential research and publication, strong and active interest in the preparation of secondary and college English teachers and teacher-educators, and a history of success (or strong potential for success) in submitting top-ranked proposals to foundations and government funding agencies.

Our new colleague will be expected to maintain a robust and professionally influential program of research relevant to teaching and learning in the disciplines and practices that define English studies and the arts of language, to guide English education doctoral students in their dissertations and in their development as critical researchers, engaged scholars, and culturally responsive educators; and to contribute generously and actively to sustaining and enhancing the quality of our four distinct masters programs and three doctoral programs in English education.
