The Division of Enrollment Management at Teachers College, Columbia University is seeking a collaborative, student-centered, and service-oriented professional to serve as an Assistant Director of Admission.
Job Summary/Basic Function:
Reporting to the Director of Recruitment, the Assistant Director will be responsible for leading the planning, coordination, and continuous improvement of Teachers College's campus visit experience while supporting graduate recruitment and admissions operations.
The Assistant Director will oversee the Welcome Center and Student Ambassador program, develop and implement visitor engagement strategies, coordinate recruitment and yield programming, and manage recruitment activities for assigned academic departments.
The incumbent will partner closely with faculty, academic departments, and Enrollment
Management colleagues to deliver an exceptional prospective and admitted student experience while advancing the College's enrollment goals.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Departmental Liaison:
● Serve as faculty liaison to two academic departments. Corresponding duties include,
assisting in arranging academic sessions, implementing application changes annually for
the admission cycle, and communicating admission updates.
● Engage in application review, finalizing of decisions, and regular reporting of admission
data to department contacts.
● Partner with faculty and academic departments to coordinate recruitment activities,
application review processes, admissions communications, and enrollment planning.
● Represent Teachers College at recruitment fairs, conferences, and outreach events as
needed.
Campus Experience & Visitor Engagement:
● Lead the planning, coordination, implementation, and continuous improvement of
Teachers College's campus visit experience, including information sessions, campus
tours, specialty visit programs, admitted student events, and virtual engagement
opportunities.
● Oversee the daily operations of the Welcome Center, ensuring prospective students,
families, and visitors receive a welcoming, professional, and student-centered
experience.
● Coordinate visitor logistics, scheduling, room reservations, technology, and operational
support for campus visit programming.
● Assess visitor feedback, participation metrics, and service outcomes to identify
opportunities for continuous improvement and operational excellence.
● Develop innovative visitor engagement strategies that strengthen the prospective
student experience and effectively communicate the value of a Teachers College
education.
● Assist with planning large events (including, but not limited to, open houses, specialty
pillar events, campus visits, information sessions and tours, Ask Me Anything webinars).
● Assist with the creation and revisement of all presentations, slide decks, and other
related materials throughout the cycle.
● Participate as a key member of the Events Committee, attending weekly meetings and
engaging in all projects as assigned.
Counseling & Customer Experience:
● Oversee customer service operations, ensuring timely, accurate, and professional
responses to prospective student inquiries received through phone, email, text, virtual
platforms, and in-person interactions.
● Ensure the Welcome Center is staffed by the Office of Admission during normal business
hours and manage a schedule of rotating on-call counselors to assist with Welcome
Center inquiries.
● Collaborate with campus partners to ensure successful delivery of recruitment
programming and visitor experiences.
● Monitor customer service metrics and recommend process improvements that enhance
responsiveness, operational effectiveness, and visitor satisfaction.
Ambassador Oversight:
● Recruit, hire, train, schedule, supervise, coach, and evaluate Student Ambassadors
supporting recruitment and visitor engagement activities, providing performance
feedback, mentoring, and professional development.
● Develop and implement training programs and resources, customer service standards,
and operational procedures that promote consistent, high-quality visitor experiences.
● Lead and manage the overall training plan, and work with designated staff members to
support tour training and onboarding as needed.
● Ensure appropriate staffing coverage for daily Welcome Center operations and
recruitment events, including campus tours and Ask Me Anything webinars.

Minimum Qualifications:
● Bachelor's degree or the equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant
work experience
● 2+ years of previous progressive admission and recruitment experience, or experience in
higher education, student services, counseling, or advising
● Valid driver's license
● Excellent writing, communication, interpersonal, and counseling skills
● Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
● Strong presentation skills
● Familiarity with computers, automated and CRM database systems; demonstrated ability
to learn new software
● Ability to work independently and as part of a team
● Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in the admissions process
● Willingness to travel locally, nationally, and internationally for recruitment
● Willingness to work some evening and occasional weekend hours
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree
● 3-5 years of previous admission and recruitment experience, or experience in higher
education, student services, counseling, or advising
● Experience with Slate
Salary Range:
$62,000 - $68,000
Work Modality:
