Job Summary/Basic Function:
The Program in Music and Music Education at Teachers College Columbia University invites applications for the position of Open Rank Visiting Professor of Music and Music Education. We seek a dynamic full-time faculty member with an emerging record of contributions to the field of music education through scholarly accomplishments, excellent teaching, and professional service.
It is anticipated that the successful candidate will begin the appointment on September 1, 2024.
Responsibilities:
We recruit a colleague whose work bridges theory and practice and who is productive in scholarship. An explicit commitment to diversity and to advancing understandings and outcomes for historically marginalized groups is required. The candidate should have successful experience teaching at tertiary level, knowledge of music teacher preparation, certification, and professional development. An interest in creative and learner-centered approaches is highly desirable. The incumbent will teach two courses per semester and carry a typical advising load. They must be willing to assume the responsibilities of academic administration and planning, and to collaborate actively with colleagues in program development.

Minimum Qualifications:
• Earned doctorate with emerging evidence of successful teaching experience at the collegiate level;
• Early record of research and scholarship in the field of university music teacher education;
• Research and teaching experience in early-career mentorship and teacher certification are highly desirable;
• Demonstrated expertise in public school music teaching, with experiences in multi/trans-cultural music, multimodal literacies, interdisciplinarity, and/or urban music;
• The candidate will have demonstrated participation in programs designed to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion, and have experience with research and educational programs that reflect the needs of minoritized or underserved populations.
