The Department of Curriculum and Teaching is seeking to hire a full-time Lecturer in the area of early childhood/elementary curriculum and literacy, with emphasis on PK-2 contexts. This is a nine-month position (non-tenure track) with possibility for renewal and for summer teaching. We seek a colleague committed to critical perspectives in curriculum, literacy, and teacher education. Responsibilities include teaching five graduate courses per academic year, supporting administrative tasks in several programs, advising students, and supervising preservice teachers in classroom settings.

Depending on the candidate’s specific qualifications, teaching duties will include courses on language development and literacy curriculum across multiple programs and integrated curriculum in the early childhood program within the department of Curriculum and Teaching. While opportunities for elective courses and doctoral teaching are available, the successful candidate is expected to contribute mainly to the teacher education Masters programs.

Minimum Qualifications:
Doctoral degree related to the field of early childhood and/or experience teaching in PK-2
settings.
Evidence of strong commitment to teaching and learning in college, university, and teacher education contexts is expected. This includes attention to supporting the success of pre/in-service teachers from historically minoritized communities (students of Color, first generation students, etc.).

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience as a practitioner and a scholar of PK-2 education in the capacity of a teacher, literacy specialist, and/or administrative leader.
Expertise in one or more of the following:
curriculum; bilingualism/biliteracy, critical theories of child development; sociocultural perspectives on language and literacy; preservice teacher education.


Candidates should be committed to public education and the mission of the programs in curriculum and teaching (see https://www.tc.columbia.edu/curriculum-and-teaching/early-childhood-education/ as an example). Knowledge of New York City public schools and K-5 standards, frameworks, and approaches.

Salary Range:

$75,000 to $80,000
