Job Summary/Basic Function:
Teachers College, Columbia University is building a new, dynamic, and collaborative initiative focused on the mental health and well-being of children and adolescents in communities and schools. This innovation hub will be dedicated to the design and implementation of effective, sustainable approaches to mental health-related prevention and intervention in partnership with school districts and other local constituencies. As such, this initiative will ultimately catalyze a pipeline that increases the number of practitioners and researchers who are together positioned to transform mental health services and prevention.

We are seeking a tenacious, visionary scholar to work with us as the inaugural post-doctoral fellow in what will ultimately be an ongoing post-doctoral cohort network. As such, the incoming fellow will have the opportunity to co-design the start-up phase of this initiative with our team as we work at the intersection of practice and research. The post-doc will pursue research under the mentorship of the initiative’s core faculty, will play a major role in related grant-writing and fundraising efforts, and will help mentor and supervise Teachers College graduate students who join the work of the hub.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Actively build and cultivate partnerships with school districts, community organizations, and other stakeholders to co-create responsive mental health initiatives
  • Supervise and train graduate students in clinical preparation and direct service activities that further these objectives.
  • Collaborate on grant-writing efforts and other fundraising initiatives to support the growth of the innovation hub and the postdoc’s independent research agenda.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams at Teachers College to design a sustainable, innovative network focused on research and practice aimed at addressing the mental health needs of children and adolescents at scale
  • Contribute to the ongoing evaluation and refinement of the hub’s strategies and objectives. Mentor and supervise graduate student(s) contributing to this effort.
  • Conduct independent research on child and adolescent mental health within school and community contexts, under the mentorship of core faculty
  • Implement and coordinate data-driven interventions to improve mental health outcomes for youth and communities.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • The selected candidate will be invited to elaborate an individualized fellowship plan with their primary Teachers College mentors, who will help ensure that the plan is proceeding accordingly. Earned doctorate in psychology, public health, or an adjacent discipline.
  • Demonstrated content expertise in scholarship related to child/adolescent mental health and well-being in the context of community-based or school-based work
  • Experience in partnership-building at the community or school level
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
  • A vision for transforming and amplifying mental health systems toward prevention and services for communities currently without access
  • A commitment to the application of scholarship and service in the communities and public schools of New York City
  • Must be a licensed psychologist in New York State (or with eligibility to transfer an active out-of-state license to NYS)
