TC NEXT, the career services office at Teachers College, Columbia University, seeks a Part-Time Interim Student Employment Assistant to support our Student Employment team. The incumbent will be responsible for supporting hiring systems, guiding students and hiring managers in navigating on-campus employment policies, and assisting with events to promote on-campus employment. This is a Part-Time Interim position which will begin on or around July 15, 2026 and continue until December 24, 2026.
Job Summary/Basic Function
Reporting to the Director of TC NEXT, the Student Employment Assistant will be instrumental in supporting and implementing the overall student employment experience for students, staff, and faculty across TC. This is a Part-Time Interim position which will begin on or around July 15, 2026 and continue until December 24, 2026. The Assistant will be expected to work 20 hours per week during the Monday-Friday, 9:00-5:00 hours of operation. This role is hybrid (3 days on campus, 2 days remote), with the possibility of a fully remote modality for a candidate who lives within a 150 mile radius of Teachers College’s campus.
The incumbent will be responsible for advising students and hiring managers regarding on-campus employment policies, creating and approving requisitions and employment offers in the PageUp system, as well as other related student employment transactions. The Assistant will also support the planning and execution of on-campus employment hiring fairs.
Characteristic Duties & Responsibilities:
● Review and approve on-campus job requisitions and offers, ensuring they are in compliance with College standards
● Advise students and hiring managers on student employment policies and procedures via email or Zoom call
● Support events to promote on-campus employment and connect hiring managers with prospective student employees
● Serve as a central resource for fielding requests and questions about student employment, responding to all front-line inquiries and concerns and escalating to leadership as necessary
● Support the creation of monthly content (newsletters, social media, flyers, etc.) directed at student employees and managers
● Maintain confidentiality and data privacy of all information
Minimum Qualifications:
● Strong computer skills, (i.e. Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Suite) as well as the ability to use web-based technology
● Clear written and verbal communication skills
● Strong client service orientation
● Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
● Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
Preferred Qualifications:
● Familiarity with applicant tracking systems or CRMs, especially PageUp.
● Familiarity with Human Resources processes, practices, and employment laws
● Experience working in a college or university setting, recruiting, and/or HR
Salary Range:
$25/hour
