Job Summary/Basic Function:
The Gottesman Libraries is seeking an Associate to help the Teachers College community engage creatively with library resources and services. We are particularly interested in applicants who are committed to inspiring students, faculty, and staff with unique educational offerings and wish to gain expertise through special library art and design projects. This position focuses on redesigns and enhancements for art and design components within the library, including book and news displays; signage; and maintenance and development of the library’s art collections. In collaboration with staff, this position supports exhibitions in the library gallery and other exhibition spaces. The library offers a collegial professional environment, with opportunities for library learning in tune with the campus community.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conceptualization, design, fabrication, and installation of physical book displays
- Support and collaborate in the launch of virtual book displays
- Design, fabrication, and installation of art gallery exhibitions
- Maintenance and recommendation of supplies for the art studio
- Maintenance of framed art storage areas
- Maintenance of library signage
- Participation in the selection committee for commissioned art
- Planning and collaboration with commissioned artists on exhibitions: 1-2 per year
- Support for visual identity, branding, and accessibility
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
The Art and Design Library Associate position is open to individuals with the following skills:
- Bachelor's degree or any suitable combination of art or creative/design education, training and experience
- Background of educational and work experiences that represent design dimensions and application areas, including conceptualization of content and fabrication of elements (layout, cutting, mounting)
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills for small to large-scale issues, with the ability to undertake and complete large print and exhibition projects
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
- Attention to detail
- A commitment to patrons and the field of education
- Fulltime TC employees are not eligible for this position.
- Must be able to abide by the Student Confidentiality Agreement.
- Must be able to abide by the Student Privacy Requirements.
- Able to commit to at least 12 hours per week
Preferred Qualifications:
- Enrolled in an art/design program
Salary Range:
$20 per hour
