Posting Summary:
The Edward D. Mysak Clinic for Communication Disorders (Mysak Clinic) at Teachers College, Columbia University is seeking a Clinic Director who will be responsible for coordinating and implementing all clinical training of graduate students in the Program in Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) in collaboration with CSD academic faculty.

Job Summary/Basic Function:

The Director of the Edward D. Mysak Clinic for Communication Disorders (Mysak Clinic) will be responsible for coordinating and implementing all clinical training of graduate students in the Program in Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) in collaboration with CSD academic faculty. The incumbent will be responsible for coordinating with academic faculty and clinical staff to ensure that the graduate students' clinical experiences are consistent with the content of the CSD curriculum, current evidence-based practices, ASHA and other accreditation standards, and all applicable City, State and National regulations.

The Director will also be responsible for promoting a culture in the Clinic that advances transparency, respect, excellence, integrity, creativity, and collaboration as well as manage the day-to-day operations of the Clinic and ensure the provision of competent diagnostic and treatment services to clients.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Clinic Management/Operations

  • Manages day-to-day operations of the Clinic and ensures the provision of competent diagnostic and treatment services to clients
  • Responsible for the development of and adherence to Teachers College, Columbia University, CSD program and clinic policies and procedures and oversees the appropriate training of staff and students to perform their duties in accordance with these policies and procedures
  • Manage all full and part-time clinic staff and student clinicians
  • Completes regular performance reviews of clinic staff

Recording Keeping and Data Management

  • Manage the maintenance of client and student records according to all applicable regulations, including but not limited to HIPPA and FERPA
  • Oversees necessary collection and storage of data and records for student evaluations, accreditation, program management and other purposes Provide systematic, regular reporting of clinic activities and financials to the CSD Program Director, BBS Department Chair, BBS Academic Department Administrator, and other appropriate College personnel at monthly and other intervals required for administrative and accreditation purposes

Student Support

  • Responsible for ensuring proper functioning of equipment and the acquisition of necessary equipment and materials required for student instruction and provision of client services
  • Manage and coordinate off-site external clinical placement experiences in appropriate affiliate settings
  • Responsible for ensuring completion of site visits to monitor supervision and student performance
  • Deliver clinical instruction to students in accordance with the CSD program curriculum and may have the opportunity for additional formal teaching responsibilities within the CSD program.

Supervision

  • Adhere to the highest standards of clinical practice and ethical behavior of all personnel and students
  • Perform supervisory responsibilities in collaboration with CSD Program Director, BBS Department Chair other appropriate personnel, including hiring, training, monitoring performance and work quantity, conducting performance evaluations, and developing goals and objectives for Mysak Clinic staff
  • Provide back-up for other clinic staff when required due to absences, including provision of supervision of student clinicians
  • Work with the CSD Program Director and other appropriate personnel on continuous quality improvement of Mysak Clinic services and instruction
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Speech Language Pathology or Communication Sciences and Disorders
  • Certificate of Clinical Competency from the American Speech-Language Hearing Association
  • Licensed as a Speech-Language Pathologist by New York State
  • 5-7 years’ experience as a practicing clinician in academic and/or clinical settings, with at least 1 year in a management position
  • Ability to work as a member of a team
  • Strong Organizational, Leadership, and Management Skills
  • Strong Communication Skills
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Cultural sensitivity in working with diverse populations

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bilingual/Multilingual preferred, but not required
  • Previous Experience supervising CSD students’ knowledge of HIPPA and FERPA requirements
  • Familiarity with ASHA accreditation and reporting requirements
  • Management training
  • Some evening and weekend hours may be required in order to facilitate expanded clinical hours and student academic schedules
