The Teachers College, Columbia University Office of Access & Services for Individuals with Disabilities (OASID) is seeking an Associate Director to work along with the Director and Senior Associate Director on various tasks within the department.

OASID works with all academic departments, faculty members, and administrative offices in an attempt to ensure that individuals with disabilities can participate fully and equally in the Teachers College community.

 Job Summary/Basic Function: 

Reporting to the Director of OASID, the Associate Director is responsible for supporting the Director in the day-to-day management and administrative functions of the office including support to students, staff, faculty, and visitors with disabilities.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 Administrative

  • Manage student, staff and faculty registration documentation and maintain digitized and hard-copy OASID records 
  • Research and identify a viable and accessible database for OASID registration and services data 
  • Manage exam accommodations for registered OASID individuals in collaboration with TC faculty and Office of Doctoral Studies
  • Review intake notes and manage recommended accommodations including letters of ID 
  • Develop Annual OASID population shift, demographic, and services reports as well as longitudinal data
  • Prepare NY State Department of Ed (NYSED-2H2) report on enrollment of students w/ disabilities
  • Provide assistance and support to the Director with new student intake as requested

 Supervision

  • Supervision of office assistants who provide alternative text format and editing services as well as front desk
  • Supervise  note-taking accommodations for both  direct and anonymous requests
  • Manage budget with regards to payment of service providers and office assistants, as well as membership and subscription renewals
  • Develop and maintain handbook for service provider and office assistant training

Digital Accessibility & Universal Design

  • Represent OASID at digital accessibility related meetings both at TC and Columbia main campus. 
  • Identify new accessible technologies to be made available for registered individuals w/ disabilities 
  • Collaborate with TC Web to update accessibility of OASID forms on website

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Masters degree 
  • Minimum of five years experience working with students with disabilities in higher education setting or equivalent
  • Knowledge of disability laws such as ADA and section 504 of the rehabilitation act
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in supervising an administrative office in higher education setting
  • Experience with adaptive technology
  • Experience overseeing students with disabilities use of technologies such as electronic readers, screen readers, note taking software etc.
  • Experience in digital accessibility

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Doctoral degree
